The Reformer Room
(entrance via car park down Watergate Lane behind ‘Water Court’ building on jct of 65, High Street, Lewes)
Reformer Pilates is all about tailoring a super versatile and adaptable piece of equipment to what your body needs. It may look like a bed of torture but in fact anyone can use this piece of equipment under careful supervision because it can be adjusted to suit the individual - yes, even in a small group class.
Why would you use a reformer room?
Mostly because it is good fun! It will also find your weak areas and will bring results much faster than with matwork alone. There are so many different exercises you can do but by joining a class you will get to grips with the fundamentals and gradually build up - if you’re happy to do so.
Do I need to be fit to do a class?
Not necessarily. It will make you fitter for sure, but it can be used by someone who has been sitting on a sofa for years and is fairly disconnected from their muscles consciously! But if this is you, you must take it carefully and book a Beginner class. Listen to the cues and try to keep in alignment as directed. It will make you use your muscles - and so you will feel them working (and for a day or two after) but you can keep things very gentle until you build up your strength.
I’m already pretty athletic - what will I get from a Reformer class?
You may be a regular runner, cyclist or Olympian, but chances are you will have areas of imbalance in your body. For example cyclists often suffer with neck and low back issues. Runners can manage on fairly limited upper body and core strength and all of us tend to overuse bendy joints rather than spreading our movements more easily. All these can be greatly assisted by regular Reformer work.
What do you offer and how much is it?
I teach regular small group classes with a maximum of 3 people all a broadly similar level. My sessions are labelled ‘Beginner’, ‘Improver’ and ‘Intermediate’ to help you find one to suit your level. But rest assured some beginners make quick progress and will be able to manage an Improver/Intermediate session if they are keen after a few weeks, and it’s also fine for some to just stick with a beginner level because they feel happy here. Classes are £66 for 3 weekly 55-min sessions on a fixed day and time as shown on the booking page. (Click button at top).
I also offer One to One individual sessions for 55 minutes by arrangement (email eepilates@gmail.com) for £60 per session. One to Two sessions are £76 and again can be arranged via email. If you have a group of 3 people that would like a regular session together please just ask.
